Facilities
Afternoon activities are offered to pupils from Year 1 upwards. Sports include football, bowling, netball, swim squad training, horse riding, karate, distance swimming, football squad training, dancing, rounder, yoga and ball skills. Some activities, such as golf, ice skating, sailing and skiing take place outside Horizon School. Other activities within the school include choir, cookery, drawing and sketching, denim design, debating, knitting, mad science, board games, stamp collecting, and drama.Curriculum / Programs
During the Key Stage Three period, students are entering a particularly critical phase of personal and intellectual development. This is a time of uncertainty, sensitivity, resistance and questioning. Their educational programme needs to provide students not only with discipline, skills and challenging standards but also with creativity and flexibility. We, at Horizon, encourage students to realize their own full potential through a school policy of differentiation in planning and teaching develop a positive attitude towards their own learning and that of others, learn from mistakes and value the contributions of others take responsibility for their actions and prepare themselves to become responsible for their own learning as self motivated and disciplined individuals. At Horizon College we will offer a broad and balanced curriculum firmly rooted in the National Curriculum of England. Students from Years 7 to 9 (Key Stage Three) will study the core subjects - English, Mathematics and Science along with the Foundation subjects - Geography, History, Modern Languages, Design and Technology, Music , Art, Drama, Physical Education and Personal Social and Health Education. Information and Communication Technology will be an integral part of all these. Pupils will be assessed using SAT testing at the end of Key Stage Three. Students completing Year 9 will, on the basis of consultation with teachers and parents, choose subjects for a two-year course leading to GCSEs. English, Mathematics and Science are compulsory core subjects and in addition a selection is made from Languages, Humanities and Creative Arts.
