As students enter the school they will be presented with technologically-based learning resources that will stimulate their senses. On entering the concourse they see the Creation Garden featuring exotic plant life and flora, creating an ambiance rarely seen in schools. LCD screens and monitors adorn school corridors informing students of their next classes and other information which has been streamed form the TV/ Radio Station. Students can then expand their horizons by visiting the theatre, which seats 500 people, or visit the observatory for a breathtaking glimpse of the stars.
The entire concept of the classroom is changing. Classrooms at Wellington International School feature complete digital connectivity with wireless internet connections, digital whiteboards and multimedia projectors. It is this step forward taken by the GEMS group which will assert Wellington School as a school of the future.
Facilities
GEMS Wellington International School has been outfitted with the very pinnacle of educational and extra curricular facilities.Facilities include a complete Knowledge Centre Library, ICT Laboratories (3) with computers and Internet connections, a Dance studio, Drama studio and Art studios (3). Also, a Television studio and Radio station is onsite, a first in UAE schools.
Stage productions are held in the Auditorium which has seating for 470 people. Students wishing to expand their horizons can visit our observatory for a breathtaking glimpse of the stars the entrance of which is seen in the picture. Dukes Cafe provides refreshments not only for students, but also for teachers and parents allowing them to meet and have discussions promoting informal discussion groups
Extra Curricular Facilities
Extra curricular facilities include an Health & Fitness Studio, a large multi-purpose sports hall, a 300m athletics track, 3 squash courts, tennis, basketball, netball and volleyball courts, a 25m indoor swimming pool, climbing wall and a play area for Foundation Stage children. The Dance Studio with two fully mirrored walls also doubles as a gymnasium for floor work.
As can be seen GEMS Wellington International School is able to cater to the unique needs of each of our children. Whilst high academic standards are essential for any school our motto of 'Success for All' means that all students get a chance to experience success in Sport and Performing Arts.
Curriculum / Programs
Wellington International School offers the National Curriculum of England with plans to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13 from September 2008 onwards.The National Curriculum for England
The National Curriculum for England is a broad and balanced curriculum applied in over 150 countries across the world. It is based on a structured and broad framework that outlines expected levels of achievement through all stages of a student's school life. In addition to development of specific skills and competencies, the curriculum emphasizes thinking skills, enquiry, creativity, planning and other skills needed to meet the challenges of the future. Wellington International School will offer British 'A' Level programmers commencing from September 2007 onwards.
International Baccalaureate Programme
The IB Diploma Programme is recognized internationally as a qualification for university entrance, while allowing students to fulfill the requirements of their national education system. There are three programmers:
The Diploma Programme (DP), for students in the final two years of school before university
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 12 to 16
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is for students aged 3 to 12.
Due to a two year accreditation programme WIS will not offer IB before September 2008 and then for students from the age of 16 onwards (Years 12 ands 13) i.e. The Diploma Programme.
