The Oxford School - (Private)


The Oxford School is a British National Curriculum school (adapted to local requirements) offering an education to children from the International Community in Dubai. At present, classes are from KG to Grade Twelve.

The school has grown steadily and now prepares students for the University of Cambridge IGCSE examinations. Students up to Grade Eight follow a common curriculum which includes major subjects, plus extra-curricular activities and sports. In Grade Nine students select subjects to study at ICGSE level. The Board Examinations are normally taken at the end of Grade Eleven. Students may elect to remain in school in Grade Twelve to follow courses leading to 'AS' and 'A' level GCE qualifications.

The School uses a wide selection of educational books and materials from the United Kingdom to meet the needs of varying abilities and from different cultures.
Special emphasis is given to Arabic and Islamic Studies for Muslim students.
Class size is usually about twenty five students.

The aim of The Oxford School is to provide sound academic education to international students in preparation for higher education while encouraging the personal and social skills necessary for the development of positive and effective young adults in harmony with the global community.
Facilities
The school transferred to a new campus in September 2001. The new premises consist of large, spacious classrooms with a specially-designed Nursery and Kindergarten unit. Facilities includes ICT Centers, Science Laboratories ,a large Library, a Multi-Purpose Hall, a covered Swimming Pool and extensive outside Sports and Play Areas.

LITERARY (School magazine, English recitation, Public speaking, Give us a clue, General knowledge quiz, English elocution, English debate, Creative Writing, Qura’n Recitation). CREATIVE (Urdu/Arabic Calligraphy, Calligraphy, on the spot art competition, Cooking). ART AND CRAFT (Paper tearing, Paper folding, Paper beads, Finger painting, Wax painting, Vegetable & spray painting, Flower making, Crafts from waste materials, Clay modeling, Needle work & embroidery, Pot painting, Mask painting, Block painting). SPORTING (Foot ball, Basket ball, Cricket, Swimming, Badminton, Table tennis, Indoor games (caroms, chess etc)).
Curriculum / Programs
The Oxford School follows a British Curriculum. Early childhood education begins with KG.1 and KG.2 where children become familiar with instructions and acquire basic skills and knowledge through the play-way method followed by early primary education in Grades 1 and 2.
Grades 3-5 build up an emphasis on concept formation and higher studies begin from Grade 6. Students up to Grade 8 follow a common curriculum, which includes all major subjects, plus extra-curricular activities and sports.

In Grade 9, students elect subjects to study at IGCSE level, for which the options are as follows: Mathematics, English, Computer studies, Environmental Management, French, Urdu, Business Studies, Accounts, Economics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

In grade Twelve students elect to follow 'AS'/ 'A' level GCE courses in subjects of their own assuming that they have achieved good results at 'O' level. Choosing Options are as follows. Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Accounts, Business Studies, Economics.

The School also provides support for students who are weak in English language skills. This is usually on a one-to-one or small group basis during school hours.

Special emphasis is given to Arabic and Islamic studies for Muslim students. Texts and Schemes of study are reviewed and updated every year.
