GEMS World School - (Private)
|
GEMS World School offers a holistic education complemented by GWSenrich (after school activities 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm) and GEM club (4:30 pm - 7:00 pm) providing breakfast and an early evening programme. GWS will operate an international school day from 8:40 am - 3:30 pm (Elementary) Additional fees apply for GWSclub activities. This "day boarding" concept will allow children to complete their studies and activities during the school day whilst being supervised, allowing the children to maximize time with their family once they return home from school.
The school brings together the very best of thinking and good practice from school systems around the world. GWS will quickly establish itself as an innovator and forward thinking international organization. Each morning time is set aside for "Time2Think". This is an opportunity for students to discuss world events, reflect on personal and social issues as well as to prepare themselves for the learning day ahead. The roof top Peace Garden provides further space for quiet reflection and contemplation. The GWS philosophy is unashamedly international and eclectic. GWS will have no problems seeking out good practice from American schools, Singaporean science and math curriculum, European international schools or indeed, from anywhere where proven good ideas are to be found. The focus on professional development will be clear to all from the outstanding professional lounge and development centre prominently located on the second floor.
GWS Discovery World is at the heart of the school with a large and impressive library and study zone. Within Discovery World students will have access to computer rooms, science rooms, robotics lab, planetarium, design and technology studio and art studio. This hub of learning zones sets out to inspire learners by creating and exciting and comfortable meeting space, a study area that provides for individual study, small group interaction and larger group seminars. The GWS Leadership teams are experienced educators with a deep understanding of learning and teaching and they will lead the development of educational programs for a diverse student community.
Facilities
Located on 10 acres of land within the new housing suburb of Al Barsha South, GEMS World School, Dubai provides state-of-the-art facilities for student life and learning. The ground floor Kindergarten classrooms lead from the dedicated elementary school reception and on into the KG indoor and outdoor play areas. The shaded outdoor KG play area includes wet and soft play facilities. KG children will benefit from their own library and a suite of computers dedicated to their early childhood needs. The elementary building holds over 40 spacious and well-appointed, ICT rich classrooms. The Discovery World
The outstanding Discovery World is at the heart of our school and features a spacious library which is the focal point of the school with science, robotics, design technology and arts clustered around it. A feature of the library is the integration of computer and ICT resources that provide teachers and students with different options for personal study and group work.
The proximity of these learning centers to one another will allow for inter-disciplinary educational opportunities to flow freely, opening up new ideas, expanding creativity and out of the box learning and thinking. For example, Visual Arts students may experiment with their art pieces in the science laboratories, while accessing the library and electronic resource bank at the same time, to enhance their work or create completely new pieces of art.

Curriculum / Programs
We are founding our school on our understanding of the IB philosophy and principles and introducing the PYP with the intention of seeking authorization and eventual IB World School status. This is subject to the approval and authorization processes of the IB which may take the school until Sept 2010 to complete. Teachers will be highly qualified and experienced educators from around the world. The internationalism of the PYP and its rich and varied basis provides ample opportunities for students to realize their potential and for the school to extend and enrich units of study to meet the needs of each student. In addition to development of specific skills and competencies, the curriculum emphasizes thinking skills, enquiry, creativity, planning and other skills needed to meet the challenges of the future. The broad and structured framework outlines expected levels of achievement for the duration of a student's education and provides a regular programme of student assessment and evaluation, ensuring that students work towards their potential and achieve age appropriate levels.
