Corniche Hospital is the premier maternity hospital in the Middle East. Located in downtown Abu Dhabi, this Joint Commission International accredited institution is the United Arab Emirates’s leading referral hospital for obstetric and neonatal care. With these speciality clinics dealing with lactation, fetal medicine, obstetric medicine and others, the hospital can handle up to 285 inpatients at a time boasting facilities for 50 intensive care cases. Owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) Corniche hospital is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International. This past year, Corniche Hospital initiated plans to renovate and expand the existing Neo-natal intensive care unit as well as our Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services. With a focus not only to patient satisfaction,we are passionate about patient safety. Hence we have joined the Patient Safety Network, part of the University Hospital Consortium (UHC), and have implemented the Modified Early Obstetric Warning System (MEOWS), and Administrator Patient Safety rounds to name a few patient safety centered initiatives..
Services and Specializations
Corniche Hospital, a Seha HealthSystem facility, is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International as of September 2008. The hospital has a professional staff of 1200 SEHA employees, lead by 10 Obstetric consultants, 12 specialists and 50 general practitioners in Obstetrics as well and Gynecology. They are supported by 25 neonatologists, 100 midwives, and 500 nurses. Together they manage each month an average of 1200 admissions, 100 intensive care cases and as many as 11,000 outpatient visits. Significant health issue in women’s health have been identified and addressed. For example, designated clinics have also been established for managing diabetes in pregnancy. Tremendous efforts such as a memorandum of understanding with the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi lends further expertise and resources in diabetic care. As the first and only hospital in the capital to be part of the Vermont Oxford network,a non profit voluntary collaboration of health care professional dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical care for newborn as well as their families, Corniche is at the forefront of best international practice and research in the management of babies in need of intensive care. Corniche Hospital is proactive in several respective forums including the reference group for licensing obstetric-gynecology practitioners in the private sector; the Regional Neonatal Network-a group of senior clinicians that reviews prenatal services and service developments across the emirate - and the Regional Medical Directors’ Forum, which meets monthly for discussions on service issues across Abu Dhabi.
