Dubai World Central - a project of the Government of Dubai - aims at strengthening Dubai’s position as an international trading hub. The company is planning on eight different projects at the moment. A few of these projects are as follows:

DWC Residential City

As the residential part of The Dubai World Central project, it is already under construction. The Residential City spreads over an area of 8.6 square kilometres. Upon its completion, it will accommodate more than 250,000 people. Transportation in this mammoth development will be linked through light rail system. Its routes will spread along the project’s main spine and it will be connected to and serve people on both the Western and Eastern parts of the city. Apart from these light rail systems, the city will also be connected by a wide road network.

DWC Logistics City

Another gigantic project of the Dubai World Central development as well as Dubai properties, Logistics City, is located near the Jebel Ali Free Zone and promises to be a logistics platform to offer all sorts of transportation modes upon its completion. The unique factor of this project is that it is the first of its kind. Its ability, to turn over more than 12 million tons of cargo each year after its completion, has astounded many. The project will also have its very own staff village to encourage employees’ accommodation in the surrounding areas. This village will be built with complete leisure facilities, shops, restaurants, sports facilities and overall services over an area 21.5 km square.

DLC project plan comprises of many warehouses and plots of land meant to be used by the logistics firms and distributors. Around 16 air cargo terminals will be built to handle the inflow and outflow of cargo and each will consist on an average of 30,000 square metres of land. DLC is part of the Government of Dubai’s plan to enhance the activity of logistics and transport and it allows them to take full advantage of the geographical upper hand that the city enjoys and make Dubai a large and profitable regional hub for logistics activity.

DWC Al Maktoum International Airport

This gigantic airport, again a project of Dubai World City development, had been previously named as ‘Jebel Ali International Airport’ and later ‘Jebel Ali Airport City’ but it is now called the Al Maktoum International Airport after Dubai’s former ruler late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Al Maktoum International Airport is designed to be the world's largest cargo and passenger hub and is almost ten times larger than the Dubai International Airport and Dubai Cargo Village combined. Its capacity of serving up to 160 million people a year is even more than the world's previously busiest airport i.e. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which only handles a mere 90 million people. It also minimises on traffic and queuing for airplanes because four planes can simultaneously land here 24 hours a day.

Some features of this Airport are:

1. Five Parallel runways which will each be 4.5 km long.
2. Three passengers Terminals. The first one would be only for the customers of the Emirates Group. The second will be designated for passengers of other carriers. The third one would host passengers of low cost Airlines.
3. 12 million tone capacity holding cargo terminals (16 in total).
4. Executive and royal jet centers.
5. Shopping malls and hotels.
6. Over 100,000 parking spaces.
7. Served by a light railway system.
8. The airport will be linked with the Dubai International Airport by a high speed express rail system.

The Dubai World City in its essence is a massive development project that will definitely take Dubai to new heights in future.
