Abu Dhabi Residents Will Be Fined For Drying Laundry OutsideThursday, August 09, 2012
According to news, residents in Abu Dhabi will be fined for airing and drying their laundry outdoors. The residents will be given warnings first and if they still dry their laundry outside, they would be fined AED 1,000. This step will be taken to maintain and improve the aesthetic appearance of the Emirati Capital.
The director of Public Health at the Municipality of Abu Dhabi, Khalifa Al Rumaithi, says, so far municipality has issued 146 warnings. He also added that multilingual warnings by building lifts have also been posted by inspection teams. The move of fining residents for drying their laundry outside has come after a 3 day campaign by the civic body. The residents of Mussafah, Baniyas and Mohammed bin Zayed City business districts were targeted in this campaign.
Al Rumaithi also says that in order to ensure compliance with laundry drying laws and instructions, Abu Dhabi Municipality is following up warnings issued to residents. Fines of AED 500 were reported to be imposed on residents of Palm Jumeirah and Jumeirah Lake Towers in February by the local bodies. These fines were for barbecuing and drying clothes on balconies.
PCFC (Customs and Free Zone Corporation) as a part of the same campaign also issued orders to not use balconies for storing things, installing satellite dishes on the façade of buildings and issuing brochures in Hindi, Arabic, English, Chinese and Urdu to residents. The rules apply to all the supervised residential communities.
